Priscilla G. Cortez, J.D., M.Ed.



Priscilla Cortez joined Lee+ Associates in 2012, after more than 15 years in the nonprofit, legal and higher education sectors.  She offers extensive experience in nonprofit program design and implementation, governance and management, and fundraising.  Priscilla enjoys leading seminars on fundraising best practices, legal compliance, and multicultural philanthropy.  She is passionate about helping nonprofits stay out of trouble, expand their donor base, and develop innovative development strategies.

Priscilla developed her expertise in program design and management as an education program director with the Austin Area Urban League and American YouthWorks.  Before joining our firm, she was Associate Director of Development at The University of Texas at Austin.  In this role, she managed a portfolio of planned giving and major gift prospects and donors resulting in over $3 million in gifts as part of the university-wide $3 billion capital campaign.  Prior to UT Austin, she was Legal Counsel and Director of Development at Southwest Key Programs, a national nonprofit organization headquartered in Austin, Texas.  In this role, she supported the Executive Director and Board of Directors and focused on corporate and major gifts in support of a $7 million capital campaign.

Priscilla has served as the District IV Director of Opportunity and Inclusion for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).  Locally, she has been an active member of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning and the Estate Planning Council of Central Texas.  Priscilla was awarded Leadership Austin’s Ascendant Award in 2010.

Priscilla currently sits on the boards of KLRU-TV, Austin’s PBS station, and Ballet Austin.  She is also a founding member of FuturoFund Austin, a ground-breaking Hispanic-focused giving circle.

Priscilla earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, a master’s degree in education administration from The University of Texas at Austin, and a law degree from St. Mary’s University.  As an attorney, she has a combination of education and experience in the field of gift and estate planning and overall nonprofit management.

Priscilla and her husband John-Michael enjoy traveling, giving back to the community and spending time with their daughter.
