Catherine “Covita” Moroney joined Lee + Associates in 2016 after more than 20 years in the nonprofit sector. In addition to her background as both a Marketing and Development Director, she brings expertise in data management and database design—including client and program outcome metrics. Covita is passionate about giving nonprofits hands-on tools to more efficiently operate by leveraging data generated through programs as well as administrative and development management.
Covita began working in nonprofits in 1990 with the San Antonio Symphony. For more than 10 years she led successful campaigns as the orchestra’s Marketing Associate, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, and Director of Marketing and Development. During her tenure audience attendance and ticket revenue grew by 34%, with sales reaching $2.4 million. Later she joined the Carver Cultural Center’s Development Board as Vice President of Marketing.
Between 2000 and 2008 Covita sharpened her management and marketing skills as General Manager of the San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble. The professional ensemble, co-founded with husband Christopher Moroney, has six commercial recordings and has toured to more than 35 American cities. SAVAE has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition and had positive reviews in scores of newspapers throughout the U.S.
Covita returned to the development profession in 2008 as Director of Development for Autism Community Network (ACN), working with board and staff to establish systems for fundraising and marketing, leading to funding from a diverse mix of individuals, foundations and corporations. This provided Covita an excellent opportunity to sharpen her proposal development skills in the healthcare arena.
In 2011 she joined Methodist Healthcare Ministries, assisting grantees and providing technical assistance for funded agencies to better manage grants, grant awards, and track client outcomes. Covita worked with MHM leadership to create tools to manage its strategic planning and growth, and was named Grant Development Manager, establishing MHM’s initial framework for soliciting major national grants.
Prior to joining Lee + Associates, Covita served as Director of Development for two other San Antonio nonprofits: the Briscoe Western Art Museum and Autism Treatment Center of Texas. She worked with Board leadership to design and launch comprehensive fundraising programs.
Covita is member of the San Antonio Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. In 2010 she earned the UTSA Center for Policy Studies’ Nonprofit Management Certificate, and earned the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential in 2012. She serves on the San Antonio Area Foundation’s Women and Girls Development Fund Committee.
A native of Southern California, Covita attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and UMass, Lowell. She and her husband have enjoyed many years of involvement in the city’s arts and nonprofit community.
