State-wide Search for New President & CEO
Client Name: Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio
The Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio provides charitable support for a variety of nonprofits including healthcare clinics, indigent care programs, assisted living facilities, substance abuse programs, behavioral health facilities, health education scholarships and other not-for-profit healthcare providers throughout eight counties in South Texas. It has awarded more than 550 grants totaling more than $36 million since its founding in 2005. In 2011 the Foundation’s Executive Director was retiring after a long and successful tenure at the organization. The Board of Trustees needed capable and experienced leadership to take over the helm of the Foundation.
BHFSA Trustees hired Lee+ Associates to conduct a state-wide search for its new President / CEO. As in all of its searches, Lee+ Associates took the time to understand what the Foundation was seeking –job requirements, responsibilities and expectations–and worked to find qualified candidates through its network of professional fundraisers. It took the lead in advertising the BHFSA position, received and screened applications, and recommended a final slate of candidates, so that the board could stay focused on its mission.
What Lee+ Associates delivered:
Lee+ Associates expedited the search by:
- Working with Trustee leaders to create the job description
- Writing ad copy and recommending appropriate media
- Receiving, receipting, and reviewing applicant résumés
- Providing search committee training
- Facilitating search committee interviews of candidates
- Conducting candidate interviews
- Performing appropriate reference checks
The trustees relied upon the experience and counsel of the Lee+ Associates team. We successfully recruited Cody Knowlton to return to his hometown of San Antonio to assume the leadership of BHFSA. Cody had 18 years of experience in the development office at Baylor University where he served as Senior Executive Director and many other attributes that made him a great fit for the position. The recruitment team said, “We know qualified fundraisers with proven track records in development and we approach them for our clients. This worked beautifully for the Baptist Health Foundation and for Cody.”
